Why you should start blogging

For some strange reason, I always think of myself as a 22 year old. Not that I’m anything close to what I was at 22 (especially in the lbs department).  I am always thinking that everyone else has more experience, more knowledge, just more of everything than me.

But about a year ago, I realized that wasn’t totally true.

I took my youngest (21 month old) to the mall playground one rainy day. Apparently every other mom had the same idea, as it was packed with about 20 kids 4 and under. Ugh.

I was fighting my son (and losing), trying to put his socks back on (as it’s required, though they don’t get any traction on the lame climby things) and a young baby wearing momma, walked over and said something like, “Oh, don’t worry, he’ll grow out of it. My 3 1/2 year old used to do that too.”

I’m sorry, what? She obviously thought this was my only child. Bwa-ha-ha. I wanted to say “duh, I know, I have 3 older children,” but the gracious and more mature me just smiled and said “Oh, good to know. Thanks.”

She walked back to the group of mommies talking about all the woes of baby/toddler years. I kinda chuckled to myself at some of the things they were discussing.

I wanted to walk over and tell them: Don’t worry, it’s OK that your 5 month old isn’t rolling yet even though your friend’s 4 month old is. Or that your 18 month old still has a pacifier (what? my 3 year old still does… and I could care less).  Or that you have to rock your baby to sleep ::gasp!::  Yo ladies, chillax, it’ll be just fine. Oh, and don’t potty train them that early! You’re just asking for a hard time.  And then it dawned on me:

Hey! I actually know something!

I was standing in line at TJ Maxx when the girl next to me answered her phone. From her side of the (obnoxiously loud) conversation I gathered she was a newly wed and hitting a few bumps in the marriage road already.

I’m not saying I’m an expert, but I had been married a decade longer than that chick and if she would’ve asked my advice, it wouldn’t be what that single friend of hers gave.

And then I pondered (yes, I ponder sometimes):

hmmm… I actually know something.

I was introduced to a 23 year old girl. She was sharing about her fiance and how proud she was of him for getting into medical school, (which she totally should be). And how she’s so glad to be there to support him through it all. (I’m sorry, was this me 12 years ago?!) As I sat there listening with a smile on my face, I thought:

Oh Lord, please help this girl for she has no idea what she has gotten herself in to. I mean… I actually know something.

Sooo…

That’s a huge reason I started blogging. Oddly enough, I felt like I had something to say, well, yes, I know, I always have something to say, but something worth sharing.

But now I have found I don’t blog just to impart the amazingly rich wisdom I have gained (you’re welcome), but more than anything, I have found that blogging is really about community.

“I met someone on the internet” has a whole new meaning – and it’s not creepy. I have found some sweet kindred spirits on these interwebz, like Lara and Candice and Jessi.

OK, so all that was just a really long winded way to say:

You know something too.

You’ve got a story. And someone is waiting to hear it.

2013 is just around the corner. If you’re wanting to try something new, then step out of your comfort zone, get brave and start blogging. You’ll love it. I promise. (but if you don’t, do not hold me responsible.)

And don’t worry. It’s not as overwhelming as it seems. Actually, Haley Morgan from The Tiny Twig, has made it easier for the newbies (and oldies too) by writing an e-book called The No Brainer Blog. Brilliant, right? Seriously wish I would have had that when I started. Would have saved me a lot of time!

Click here to view more details about the book and Haley!

And if for no other reason, you should start blogging to post pictures on it like this

B&Wbedhead

And that’s totally natural, untouched bed head. You know you’re jealous.

But for realz, have you ever thought of starting a blog? {do it…do it…do it…) If you have any questions or are confused (like I was and still am), please holler at me AmberTheUDW @ gmail . com

Or do you already have one? Maybe one that needs a little dusting off? Please share your blog address in the comments below. I’d love to take a peek!

And again, if you need a refresher course or want to just see what this blogging thing is all about… Click here to view more details about The No Brainer Blog e-book. You can thank me later ;)

Peace out.
